Sangeet Smriti was established by Shikha Biswas Vohra in December 2004 to keep alive the melodious and natural musical sounds of yesteryears as a non-profit organisation. It has close to two hundred members, and the community is growing by the day.
It is a celebration of melody, of soul, and of rhythm. It encompasses music-lovers who share a passion for old film songs that were raga-based and resonated with melody and sweetness.
We have just started on our journey. There are miles to go yet, as we bring the past into the present and blend the two into a joyous scent and for some time escape into the glory of these tunes away from the stress of the world. There are many composers to celebrate, many a rare gem to re-discover, and many wild daisies to pick from hidden crevices.
SMRITI is a memory to preserve and cherish, a memory which motivates a warm and silken nostalgia when music was all about lyrical quality.
To put it succinctly, Kajrare is fun; but Kajra Mohabbatwala is memorable.
